Klaipėda District Municipality is located in western Lithuania, east of the city of Klaipėda, with its center in Gargždai. The district was formed in 1950, and the Klaipėda District Municipality was established in 1995. The municipality’s territory includes 2 cities and 7 towns. There are 11 elderships in the district.

The entire Klaipėda District Municipality is rich in general education schools and museums; it also accounts for 3% of Lithuania’s industrial production (the most important sectors being oil production, construction materials, and wood processing).

Visitors are drawn to this district by the Dreverna observation tower, museums, city and town parks, Naglis Hill, hillforts, beaches, and many other attractions.

Works

A multipurpose sports center of approximately 7,500 m² is under construction, which will include a swimming pool with four 25 m long lanes up to 4 m deep, a SPA area with saunas and a whirlpool, stands, locker rooms, and administrative premises. A second building is also planned, which will house a universal sports hall with a capacity of at least 1,200 spectators.

The site will be developed by installing all necessary utilities, a parking lot, paths, and public spaces.

Results

Upon completion of the works, the residents of Gargždai and the entire Klaipėda district will have a long-awaited sports center with full facilities for training, sports, learning to swim, or relaxing in the entertainment complex. Local volleyball players, soccer players, and other athletes will also be able to train here, providing residents with a great opportunity to watch various competitions without leaving the Klaipėda district.
